Objective / Goal of the activity

ESN ADA Baku organized another Social Inclusion project in cooperation with CineMates Club at ADA University: The airing of the “Shelter” documentary movie. The event was aimed at raising awareness about the victims of gender-based violence and discrimination by displaying the daily life of inhabitants of the shelter.

Description

"Shelter" is a locally produced documentary by Maryam Mirzayeva about a shelter for homeless women and children in Baku. Through the documentary, we delve into the daily lives of the inhabitants of the shelter and hear stories about what made them come here in the first place.

The majority of the women did not want to be filmed or even in some cases did not allow their kids to be filmed as they feared heavy criticism from their families or persecution from their husbands for complaining publicly.

Result of the activity

The movie includes the footage of a charity event. This was a very special day in particular for those who spent long months not going out from the shelter out of fear or because of not having any place to go.

The producer of the movie also attended the event to provide information about the circumstances of the shooting and the meaning behind the story.
