We organised this event because we wanted to resume our training event tradition. In fact, this event needed to stop because of the COVID-19 pandemic and, at least in Italy, it was too early to do that in 2021 since there was still a bit of uncertainty on how the situation would have evolved. The main aim was to train our volunteers, most of whom in that year weren’t able to have a proper Local School because of the struggles and difficulties the pandemic left in the previous years. The Sections, even though we managed to keep them close, didn’t physically meet for almost two years and new volunteers didn’t know each other. So, what a better occasion could have been to recreate that mutual feeling and friendly atmosphere we have always had if not in a local school?! Due to this reason, we decided to gather a team building and training event : we raised awareness on many different topics which are the heart of our association, among which the Causes and the reason why they are so important to us all, and the fundamental values to convey the message the Erasmus Generation is a bearer of.
In a way, the school was also organised in order to put into practice the values of ESN! We wanted to make our volunteers understand that even if we are one big Family, each Section has its own way of working, its internal structure and its ideas. This was the best way to practically work on the “unity in diversity” value of ESN. By being all of us were students, and we were always helping each other in our daily activities, such as the organisation of the lunch, the workshops, the groupworks and so on. This represents our “Students helping Students” motto and, for sure, as any volunteer knows from their personal experience, we wanted to provide our volunteers with a safe space where they could have fun in friendship and respect.
