Our aim was to promote young people's interest and participation in political processes and to strengthen the sense of community within the European student body. It was also important to us to actively bring people from different countries together and open up new perspectives.
We chose the date because it was a few days before the election and therefore offered the opportunity to reach those students who originally did not want to vote or were possibly still unsure.
For the event, we rented a bar in advance, which is located in the middle of the student district. It was important to us to create an authentic and relaxed atmosphere for the pub quiz in order to reach as many students as possible. We also prepared questions on various topics and categories, including flags, capitals, national anthems, but also on the EU in general, its institutions and the upcoming elections. It wasn't just about testing knowledge, but rather we wanted to use the questions to illustrate the importance of the European Union for students in Europe today. Among other things, we addressed the introduction of the Erasmus+ program in 1987, but also the low voter turnout of just under 50 percent in the last election in 2019. Our aim was to use a variety of questions to make the complexity of the European Union and its relevance in different areas of life visible.
The event began with a warm welcome to all participants by volunteers from our association. Over the course of the evening, they moderated the entire quiz, presented the questions and evaluated them afterwards. To make the quiz more exciting, the difficulty level of the questions was increased as the evening progressed. The quiz consisted of different question formats, including open and multiple choice questions. The students could participate in teams of 3-5 people and at the end there was an award ceremony for the best team of the evening.
