The goal of this event was to create a space where incoming students can meet with their local buddies for the first time and socialise with other local or international students.
For this event we rented a large room in a local bar, which feautured student friendly prices and decorated it a little and prepared some small games for the participants. We greeted people at the entrance and asked whether they already have a local buddy. If they did not have anyone but were interested in getting to know some local or international students we asked them to write down their name on a piece of paper and put it in a small basket. A few hours later we then used this hat to randomly pair up some people in order to encourage them to get to know new people.
The event was an astounding success! An unexpectedly large amount of people turned up at the location and to our surprise it also attracted a lot of local students. The "friendship lottery" was extremely well received and overall the mood and atmosphere was great! People enjoyed it so much that we ended up staying at the location until the bar had to be closed down.
