What we wanted with this activity is to bring the students of a Secondary School a little closer to the Italian culture and talk to them about people with functional
diversity, establishing a cultural exchange between them and our Erasmus students.
On Tuesday the 3rd of December, we visited the MarĂa Inmaculada School in Alfafar from 3pm to 5pm to talk about the day of people with functional diversity.
Two Italian Erasmus students, Chiara and Azzurra, participated in our activity. We visited 2 classes: a 3rd ESO class with students between 14 and 15 years old
composed of 25 students and the 2nd ESO class of 32 students between 13 and 14 years old, where each session lasted about 50 minutes.
At the beginning of the first turm with 3rd ESO students, one of the students brought us a typical cake for us and the Erasmus students and then they made a prayer, since the school we visited is a religious one. Next, Luis talked about who we were, what ESN is and why we were there. Then, our Erasmus Azzurra e Chiara
introduced themselves and started the presentation they had prepared themselves. Azzurra made an introduction about Italy talking about geography, culture,
traditions and tourism.
In the second part of the presentation, Chiara spoke to us about the topic they were going to talk about, people with functional diversity. They told us about society
and its adaptations for these people (museums where you can touch sculptures, ramps, lifts for people with wheelchairs, etc.) and about famous people from Italy
with functional diversity (paralympic athletes, composers, singers, etc.).
At the end of the presentation we asked them if they knew about famous Spanish people with functional diversity or if they could tell us what we can do in society to
help these people. Our Erasmus students have also been asked questions about which cities they have visited in Spain, how do they feel in Valencia, whether they
like Spanish food, Italian food, doubts about the Erasmus program, since some students started to get curious, they have been asked for advice about which city
they recommend visiting, how they have met Chiara and Azzurra, and so on.
In the second turn with the 2nd ESO class we started by introducing ourselves and then Chiara and Azzurra made the presentation as before. At the end of the presentation we made a round of questions and doubts. These students were more curious than the previous ones and they participated a lot.
The result of this activity has been quite positive. Both the Erasmus students and the pupils had fun. Chiara and Azzurra told us that they liked the activity very much and
the teacher who helped us thanked us and congratulated us for how everything had gone.
