- Breaking stereotypes about regional and national cuisine
- Learning about other cultures about one aspect of them: food
- Increasing the participant's food repertoire and encouraging them to cook, two ways to achieve a healthier diet
In this activity, participants join up in groups with people of the same region or country they are from to cook a traditional dish from that place, then all the dishes are brought to a venue where everybody can share and eat all the food and talk about what the dishes are, what they are made of, how to cook them and also the story behind them. By doing this, people will learn about the culture and cuisine of different countries and regions, opening their vision of different countries and breaking some stereotypes.
This was an activity with a great following, there were dozens of different dishes and everybody enojoyed the evening, some people shared recipes and, after seeing this, we shared a form in which people could write their recipes in order to make it available to everyone.
Before the activity, the participants were asked whether their dish contained pork, meat or fish, or any animal products and the dishes were labeled accordingly, to make the dinner accessible to vegetarians, vegans or people who don't eat pork for religious reasons.
During the activity we used reusable plates and cultery that was afterwards recovered and washed.
