The aim of this event was to start the semester with a fun activity of discovering the city, their new friends, the language and the ESN team but with a twist. Since it was held in the beginning of the second semester where our team joined a lot of new volunteers, we also wanted to show them our associative dynamic in ESN Strasbourg, to get to know the international students better, to make sure they form small groups and get to know each other as well by working on a common task. The main objectives were fostering intercultural dialogue between international students, touring the city, reinforcing volunteer interactions, and all that with a spice of pop culture.
The idea of the project was to mix two activities, the discovery and tour of the city with a little bit of pop culture, fun and games. We organized a giant real life murder party based on the popular game Cluedo with the theme Pop Culture. The participants were told there has been a terrible crime in Strasbourg and they needed to meet Sherlock Holmes on the main square in Strasbourg. Sherlock told them the time machine has been stolen and gave them clues and a map of the city to try to find who did it and where it is. There were six suspects hidden in six different places all around Strasbourg and each one blamed the other of committing the crime. After talking to Joker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Harley Quinn, Men in black, Marty McFly, Lara Croft and many more, the teams had to gather all the evidence and meet at a final stop where the police was waiting for the answers!
We believe that the event was a great success. Everyone was really satisfied, starting from the international and local students, volunteers, partners and organizers. We achieved what was the plan all along and that was to create memories, to create relationships and start the new semester with as much positivity and excitement as possible during this time. We showed how we can start from a crazy idea and make it into reality with a lot of imagination, teamwork and motivation.
