The goal of bringing Erasmus students to see the Fòcara of Novoli is to offer them an authentic experience that highlights the culture and traditions of Salento. The Fòcara, a towering bonfire made of vine branches and lit in honor of Saint Anthony the Abbot, symbolizes community, devotion, and folklore. Participating in this celebration allows students to immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere of a local festival, discover traditional customs, taste local products, and create unforgettable memories in a context that fosters cultural exchange and integration.
The activity dedicated to discovering the Fòcara of Novoli was divided into two main parts. In the afternoon, the Erasmus students took part in a city tour of the town, exploring its most iconic spots and delving into its history and traditions. In the evening, the group attended the enchanting traditional show of the Fòcara, featuring the lighting of the massive bonfire and the unique atmosphere enhanced by live music. The event was made even more special by the tasting of typical Salento cuisine, offering participants an authentic and engaging experience to discover the heart of Salento’s culture.
