Erasmus experience is about experiencing. So the best we can do for our beloved international students is creating a space where they can truly discover the beauty and particularity of Italy. On the first weekend of may we gave erasmus students a possibility to immerse themselves into barese culture and live a local tradition of the „Festa di San Nicola” on their own.
Festa di San Nicola is the most awaited holiday in Bari. These were a few days of unrepeatable events and celebrations in different parts of the city center that we experienced all together.
On sunday we met at the old harbour to take a walk at the seaside. While passing stands with
regional products we could learn something about traditional way of celebrating this holiday, taste “U panin cu pulp arsteut” (a sandwich with grilled octopus) and other local specialities. In the afternoon we watched a storical parade which passed through the streets of Bari. Then we enjoyed the unrepeatable atmosphere of the city, having fun and dancing until the sunrise.
On monday afternoon we had a walk in the Old Town and had lunch together. At sunset we joined the inhabitants of Bari to welcome the statue of Saint Nicolas arriving in the city on a boat. After the procession with the statue of the Saint we spend time dancing at the seaside. The long, full of new experiences day has ended with a long night, when we watched a spectacular fireworks show and danced until 5 a.m.
