Objective / Goal of the activity

To provide a warm welcome for Exchange students through means that were already steadily rooted in the local students interests - bring local and external students together through language.

Description

The Language Cafe was split between about 10 tables with 10 nationalities and a native speaker at each with a distinguishing flag and ice breaker questions - we had 7 language teachers. Attendees migrated between different tables, learning their desired languages and meeting other students that shared the same interest in doing do.

Striving to accommodate all students and provide a beneficial event that would best enable the external and local students to meet and share their experience at City, ESN City London supported the SU by providing funding for food and drinks as well as booking the venue.

Result of the activity

The event was successful with over 45 attendees and lasted for approximately three hours. Both local and exchange students mingled, made new friends and different connections, and learned new languages or aspects of different languages/cultures, while appreciating the skills of those who were speaking their respective languages.
