participants
This activity aimed to increase awareness and understanding of different types of disabilities by allowing participants to experience brief simulations in a safe and guided environment. Through hands-on tasks and reflective discussions, participants had the opportunity to explore how everyday actions can feel under various limitations and to develop empathy toward individuals who face these challenges in daily life.
During the event, participants were introduced to three different disability simulations designed to help them understand how specific limitations can affect communication, perception, and interaction. Small groups rotated through stations focusing on visual, hearing, and speech-related challenges. Examples included playing a simple game while visually impaired, trying to interpret speech with limited hearing, and communicating using basic sign language instructions.
Throughout the activity, participants supported one another, shared their observations, and reflected on how these experiences compare to real-life situations faced by individuals with disabilities. The workshop created an open and respectful space for learning, encouraging empathy, inclusivity, and deeper social awareness.
Outcomes
- Participants were able to engage directly with the simulations, gaining practical insight rather than only theoretical knowledge about different types of disabilities.
- The station-based tasks offered simple yet impactful ways to build empathy and understand how everyday experiences can change under certain limitations.
- A supportive atmosphere emerged naturally, with participants listening to each other’s reflections and learning from diverse perspectives.
- The flow of the activity created an inclusive environment where everyone could participate comfortably and express themselves freely.
- Experiencing basic tasks with added constraints helped participants develop a deeper awareness of how challenging daily activities can be for individuals with disabilities.
