The goal of the activity was to promote using a fixed tour with games the areas surrounding part of the university campus. As the activity was done at the beginning of the semester, it also served as a starting point for the International Students to meet each other and some ESN volunteers.
From a cultural point of view, the tours covered quite different areas: two monuments of Madrid (Templo de Debod and Faro de Moncloa), a park and a church.
Finally, from the point of view of language and communication, the games were thought as ice-breakers, which lead eventually to an environment in which all of them were able to participate and improve their Spanish. The information for each game and place was given in both English and Spanish.
Due to COVID limitations in Spain, the activity was held outdoors and in separated groups of six, each one with a different starting point and route Each group had to find several places in Madrid following clues written in a guide. All the places were reachable by foot. In each of these places, the students had to play a small game: mimics, expressing certain expressions in Spanish or being able to photograph some landmarks. With each group there was an ESN volunteer in order to help them with the games and the clues, as well as to prevent each team to mix with the others, as the COVID regulations suggest.
At the end of the tour, the students were given a small diploma to commemorate the activity.
