Description
L'Avare is a play in five acts and written in prose by Molière. The first performance of the play took place on September 9th, 1668 at the Théâtre du Palais-Royal in Paris. This comedy with a burlesque tone, however, deals with serious subjects that have little to do with laughter, such as greed, selfishness, sexism or tyranny towards servants.
To briefly summarize L’Avare, this play features Harpagon, a rich and stingy bourgeois, and his two children Cleante and Elise. This is followed by a story mixing love, arranged marriage and, of course, money.
