This is a great opportunity to be part of lived solidarity! As a volunteer you allow the civil society to directly share their shopping’s with people in need and get in touch with Viennese people.
On Saturday, November 30th, the Austrian Foodbanks (Wiener Tafel and many more) organise the 2nd Austrian “Sammel-Tag” (Collection Day).
During the “Sammel-Tag”, the Foodbanks collect, in cooperation with the supermarket chain LIDL, non-perishable foods donated by costumers, and distribute them to welfare institutions.
Why non-perishable foods? Especially non-perishable foods (rice, pasta, cooking oil, tea/coffee, cans) and hygiene products are highly needed by welfare institutions. At the same time, due to their long storage life, those products can hardly be provided by the Foodbanks.
The Viennese Foodbank already successfully organised a “Sammel-Tag” in 2018 and is now hoping for YOUR contribution to make the 30th of November another memorable day!
The Viennese Foodbank is looking for volunteers, who approach costumers before entering the supermarket, tell them about the project and collect donated food. Since there are many stores of LIDL all over Vienna participating, you will be assigned to one store in one out of three shifts (7h30-10h30/10h30-14h30/14h30-18h30). Each store has a team leader by the Viennese Foodbank, who coordinates the volunteer group.
People who took part in that event had the chance to not only connect with Viennese people but also do something good for the environment.
