The purpose of this event was to raise awareness of environmental issues among students and also show them a good way of changing their daily habits - like buying in plastic bags in this case - by showing them a good alternative.
During the event the participants were sewing shopping bags out of second-hand materials. At first we shared basic information with the participants the importance of decreasing the amount of plastic bags used in our daily life and the negative impact that generating so much plastic garbage has on our planet. Later we introduced them to the used materials, its origins and sewing techniques for shopping bags. Each participant made two bags - one for themselves and one for the use of our local section. During the event everybody was talking a lot about different topics, also the ones about environmental issues. We were also sharing our good practices that we use in daily life to help a bit our planet.
The participants really enjoyed the event especially that they could take a handmade shopping bag home. They showed true interest in the little ways of changing everyday lifestyle in order to help our planet. This event showed us that it’s important to organize such activities and that people that join it are really interested in the topic.
