The aim of the event was to introduce new members to the basics of ESN, foster a positive mindset toward the organization, and jumpstart connections among participants and the Local Board.
As for the objectives, by the end of the training participants are able to: understand the mission, vision, values and causes of ESN, understand the structure of ESN & ESN Zagreb, as well as understand the point of Visual Identity Manual and Slack. We also focused on encouraging them to interact with each other and the Local Board confidently. By the end of the training participants are able to compare formal and non-formal education as well as identify opportunities for personal and professional development in ESN.
The initiative is a well-established onboarding event for new members of ESN Zagreb, held annually at the beginning of the academic year. Traditionally taking place on a Saturday, the event runs from morning to afternoon and is designed to welcome new members into the organisation.
The program introduces participants to the core of ESN - its causes, values, mission, vision and operational structure while fostering a positive and inclusive mindset toward the organisation. It also includes interactive activities and peer-to-peer engagement, creating an inspiring environment that encourages connection and collaboration.
The event has evolved significantly over the years, incorporating feedback and innovation to optimise its content. Its longevity and continuous improvement have made it an essential for ESN Zagreb’s volunteer retention strategy.
While onboarding events are common across different ESN sections, our Newbie Training stands out in its longevity and continuous improvement throughout the generations. It has gained recognition beyond ESN Zagreb, with other sections requesting materials and guidance to replicate it. This highlights its originality and its format as a good model for effective onboarding in a dynamic, large-scale volunteer organization.
