The goal of the Italian night was to familiarise people with the Italian culture and language while also enjoying their national cuisine and their music.
For this event we booked an Italian restaurant that featured a lot of classic Italian cuisine on the menu. The organisers of this event also were supported by international students from Italy, who we recruited through an Open Call. With the help of these incomings we put together a playlist with famous Italian songs to play in the background. So while people were able to talk and socialise, they could enjoy the atmosphere of a typical Italian restaurant and listen to famous Italian songs. For fun pictures we also prepared some card board cut outs of pizza, Venetian masks and other things which are typically associated with Italy. As a highlight of the night we then also organised a short quiz about Italy. People could form teams together and compete as a group by answering questions about Italian culture, while also learning fun and interesting facts. Afterwards the winners were awarded with a prize. This prize consisted of a basket full of typically Italian groceries.
The evening was very successfull and it was attended by both local and international students! The incomings who helped us organise the event were eager to tell other people about their culture and language. All people actively engaged and talked about differences in cultures, music, food and drinks and they genuinely seemed to enjoy the general atmosphere of the restaurant. The quiz we organised was also a lot of fun for everyone and the prize was gratefully received. Overall, the event was a lot of fun for everyone and people left in a good mood and with a lot of new knowledge about Italy.
