The goal was to get to know different food from other countries and new people at the beginning of the exchange semester.
Our International Dinner consists of every student bringing some (home-made) food from their country. At the venue, the participants from the same country "open a country table" where they present their food with small name tags, sometimes they even bring decorations like flags to make their table look even nicer. Then everyone can go around, taste yummy food and get to know other people.
We also had a little contest where everyone could vote for the best food. At the end of the evening we counted the votes and gave a little Viennese prize to the winner.
Also, to make our event as plastic-free as possible we asked every participant to bring their own plate, cup and cutlery, so we don't need to buy and use single-use plastic things. Moreover, we invested in a reusable flags garland for decoration and reusable chalk boards for food name tags, which we hope to use at every International Dinner from now on.
We were happy to have so many participants from so many different countries. Everyone brought so much food and it was a really nice atmosphere. It was the perfect ending of our Welcome Week.
