The Fado Night aimed at showing an important part of the city of Coimbra's culture. Fado is a Portuguese music genre which was recently considered UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. It is also still part of Coimbra's student traditions, with many festivities being organised around Fado ballads and groups.
This activity was organised together with a group of Fado singers and players and a traditional bar in the city, who offered their space for ESN Coimbra to host this event. International students sat together enjoying Portuguese wine while watching and listening to the Fado group, whose singer would explain the meaning and history of the songs in between their performance.
This night introduced the International Students to Coimbra's traditions and to the most typical Portuguese songs, and made them interested in exploring more of the city's student traditions while on their exchange program.
