The goal of this activity was to give the participants a taste of one of the most beloved Portuguese traditions: the 'arraial', and to promote Portuguese culture through music, food and traditional games.
An 'arraial' is a typical Portuguese party, usually held outside, to celebrate saints like St. John. There is plenty of Portuguese snack food, from grilled meat sandwiches to fried desserts, music, dancing and traditional games.
Before the event, our volunteers prepared the venue with stalls for drinks, food and traditional Portuguese games. Participants were encouraged to try typical Portuguese 'arraial' food, from sandwiches to snacks and beverages. We also had a few traditional games that everyone could play, as well as music and enough room to dance.
The activity introduced a new kind of Portuguese culture to the participants: the 'arraial'. Overall, this activity was well-received and many participants were intrigued by this kind of party and the culture and history surrounding it.
