The Goal of the Dialogue in the Dark is to have people with normal eyesight have the experience of living without it.
This way, we can understand the situation of blind people better, are more likely to help and interact socially with blind people, which is unfortunately rarely the case.
The event is a guided tour in total darkness through various every-day-life-situations which are reconstructed in a safe and closed space.
The guide is a blind person who leads you only with his/her voice and provides lots of information about life without eyesight while participants are experiencing that at the same time.
The tour goes through different settings such as a park, a kitchen, a busy street, a market and a sound-cinema.
The tour ends in a bar where participants have the possibility to drink something or eat a snack while still being completely without eyesight. There, you can have a chat with you guide, asking them personal questions about their life-experience, too.
Through tis activity, one can raise awareness about the whole topic of blindness.
It provides the possibility to experience being blind in order to better understand the conditions and obstacles that come with it.
Ultimately, we hope that as a result, people will take better care of each other and are more likely to help out a blind person in the right way and when needed.
Also, we hope to lower the social "barrier" between people with severe disabilities and those without.
The activity creates an encounter between the "blind and seeing" people which will hopefully - eventually - make social interaction between them less of a rare image in society.
