Objective / Goal of the activity

- Welcoming the new international students in Porto;

- Showing them a little bit of the city that will host them for the next few months;

- Sharing with the international students a taste of how rich in history our city is.

Description

Welcome to the beautiful city of Porto! Have you just arrived and can't wait to know more about the history of this city? Do you wanna explore some of the most important historical sites of the very rich Porto? Well this activity is for you!

Extremely rich in history and patrimony, Porto has many many things that you can't miss, but since there are too many for just one activity we are going to give you a little taste of Porto’s patrimony. And where are we taking you, you might ask. No more, no less than the oldest part of our city, its cathedral, one of the richest churches that we have in Porto, and, to wrap everything up, a surprise that we have prepared for you!

Built almost 900 years ago, Porto’s cathedral or Sé do Porto as we call it, is a testament to the city’s history, with its museum, beautiful cloister and a history of changes that reflect the changes within the city itself. You can’t miss it!

Belonging to one of the most known and prominent religious orders in Portugal (the Franciscans) the Igreja de São Francisco or Church of São Francisco, is a great thing to visit if you like gold, because the walls are covered in it! If you’re an architecture nerd you’ll be able to see the church that is considered the best example of Gothic in Porto, while being a prime example of baroque inside!

Result of the activity

The event went very well and Erasmus gave us a very positive feedback. Our volunteers kept translating everything that the guide said. We also had a picnic during this event to promote intercultural dialogue and interpersonal relations. During the picnic we also used our reusable plastic cups, in order to make this event as green as possible.
