Objective / Goal of the activity

The objective of this event is to raise awareness amongst young people about the issue of homelessness and break the stereotypes. Also to make them realize a bit more of that strange thing that is called society.

Description

After the gathering of the participants at the meeting point, the event started at the office of the street paper Shedia (Shedia is a street paper NGO that helps homeless people, only they have the right to sell this magazine). The coordinator of the magazine (also street paper) explained to us the reason for the existence of the NGO and the impact they try to make. Afterwards the participants had the opportunity to learn about street papers across the world. Later on a two-hour alternative tour in the city of Athens begun, the guide of this tour is one of the homeless sellers of Shedia. There are 7 stops and during the tour, each one with a story of how homeless people survive, how the municipality supports them and how we can make their lives better.

Result of the activity

The participants learn how homeless people survive in this jungle that is called society, the existence and the propose of the street paper and how some simple actions of kindness can have an impact.
