Goal of the Activity

The objective of the activity is to inform and encourage reflection and debate on the close correlation between migration, gender differences, and global warming.

Description

We met at the youth area of the Toti community centre to attend together an online webinar dedicated to the multifaceted relationship between climate change, migration, and gender rights. The researchers Lydia Wanja Kingery from Kenya and Erika Moranduzzo from Italy discussed several topics; for example, they explained how rising temperatures reduce food security in many areas of Africa, leading to famine and political instability.
The issue of women’s situation in the context of climate change was also addressed. For instance, it was noted how increasing temperatures have a negative impact on women’s fertility. After the conference ended, we took part in a discussion among ourselves, exchanging our views on the topics presented in the webinar. Following this debate, the event came to a close.
Overall, the event was valuable for reflecting on and understanding not only the climatic and physical effects of global warming but also its profound social implications. Moreover, the final discussion we held among ourselves also provided an opportunity to socialise and strengthen bonds within our Erasmus group through intellectual exchange.
