Goal of the Activity

Teach how to cook Panellets (a typicall catalan fall pastry) to international students and integrate international students into local festivities.

Description

Workshop for cooking panellets with international students. We printed a recipe for each international student and cooked all together the pastry. Meanwhile, we also let them know what the tradition La Castanyada is about (typical fall story) and sing the songs all along. For those who could not come, we sent the recipe through whatsapp, so all the international students could have it.

Outcomes

It went really well! While we were boiling the sweet potatoes (20 minutes boiling, and if you cut them into pieces they cook faster), we took the opportunity to introduce ourselves and talk about La Castanyada and give a short introduction. While we were cooking, we played background music and danced La Castanyera and El Marrameu Torracastanyes, explaining to them the All Saints’ traditions in Catalonia and the meaning of the songs. The kitchen is very well equipped, there’s no need to bring any materials from home, except for a container to take the food away.
