The goal of the “Beyond the Surface: Scuba Day” activity was to introduce participants to marine ecosystems through a safe and accessible scuba diving experience while promoting environmental awareness, sustainable interaction with nature, and experiential learning. The event aimed to encourage participants to develop a deeper appreciation for marine biodiversity and responsible tourism practices through direct contact with the underwater environment.
“Beyond the Surface: Scuba Day” offered Erasmus students the opportunity to experience scuba diving for the first time in the protected marine area of Isola delle Femmine. Organised in collaboration with professional diving instructors, the activity combined outdoor adventure, environmental awareness, and intercultural exchange in a unique learning experience.
Participants received a safety briefing and full diving equipment before taking part in guided dives within the marine reserve, discovering underwater biodiversity and gaining a better understanding of marine ecosystems and their protection. The event also promoted confidence-building, teamwork, and personal growth through experiential non-formal learning in a natural setting.
In addition to the educational and environmental components, the activity created a relaxed social atmosphere where international students could connect, share experiences, and enjoy sustainable outdoor tourism together. Each participant received a certificate of participation and a personalized video memory of the experience.
